Bard Ball to feature Hamilton’s Fergie L. Philippe

This BROADWAY IN CONWAY evening of entertainment on February 9 features performances by Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre’s alumni Fergie L. Philippe.

Fergie currently runs with the Sons of Liberty as Hercules Mulligan and James Madison in the national tour of Hamilton.

Fergie is no stranger to the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre stage. His resume includes characters such as Orsino in Twelfth Night, Pistol in The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice, Pepe in West Side Story and Sasha in Fiddler on the Roof.

Dan Matisa – Assistant Professor of Theatre, Bradley University and Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre Company Member – reflects on Fergie’s tenure with Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre. “I first met Fergie when I was a guest professor at his alma mater, Elon University in North Carolina. After seeing him in Elon’s wonderful production of the musical Ragtime, I assumed he must be a returning student or a “non-traditional” (i.e. much older) student because he was playing the role of Booker T. Washington with a presence, confidence, clarity, and maturity that was beyond those of the typical college-level performance. I couldn’t have been more wrong; He was a freshman, and it was his first undergraduate show. Later that year, in student-directed productions at Elon, Fergie played “Raul” in William Mastrosimone’s Extremities and “Dave Moss” in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross. These were incredibly complex, emotionally rich roles, and he was still in his first year. I knew this was a special performer.”

Proceeds from the Bard Ball support Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre.  The evening includes entertainment by Fergie L. Philippe, heavy appetizers, and complimentary beverages.  There will also be a live and silent auction.
