Garrett Uekman Foundation Festivities This Weekend

July is a month that celebrates freedom, food, fun and friendship. In Central Arkansas, it’s also the time of year to honor and remember the life of Garrett Uekman, a beloved Little Rock Catholic High School graduate and Razorback football player whose life ended to soon.

On Friday, July 15, the Garrett Uekman Foundation hosts the fifth annual 7-on-7 football tournament under the lights at War Memorial Stadium. The tournament is open to fifth through eighth-graders, as well as junior high and high school students. Entry fee is $250 per team and includes a commemorative t-shirt, drinks and lunch for all participants.

The sponsor party at Embassy Suites on Saturday, July 16, is a fun + festive opportunity to celebrate all the people who make the tournament possible each year.

Out of their grief, friends and family established the Garrett Uekman Foundation. The foundation generates funds for heart disease education and student-athlete scholarships. Garrett played his last Razorback game against Mississippi State at War Memorial Stadium. He died suddenly the next day, Nov. 20, 2011, of an enlarged heart.
