The Allen School

Since 1958, The Allen School has enabled children birth to five, with developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, and mental retardation, to achieve their dreams, through treatment, nurturing, and education.

A dedicated staff directs the school's inclusive enrollment, where typically developing students blend with those facing mental and physical challenges.

The Allen School program is individually tailored to maximize each child's potential. A combination of early childhood teachers, special education teachers, and paraprofessionals working together with physical, speech, and occupational therapists ensure that all students are given the perfect balance of education and inspiration. For the previous 50 years, The Allen School has been housed in a 6,000 sq. ft. building that includes 30 staff, 60 children, and their needed equipment. The children of The Allen School have big dreams and their dreams need room to grow!

Through the generosity of alumni families, friends, and the community, The Allen School Capital Campaign has reached the point that it can begin expanding. A 12,000 sq. ft. addition is planned, followed by a renovation of the original building.

In order to complete the project, including classrooms needed to help 24 additional children, more funds must be raised. On August 14, 2008, a fundraiser will take place at the Governor's Mansion to raise funds in support of The Allen School. Governor and Mrs. Beebe will serve as honorary chairs, along with Marilyn Reed and Richard Levi, who will serve as co-chairs.
