Cupcakes for Goodness Sake – Pulaski Tech’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute

Calling all cupcake enthusiasts! Cupcakes for Goodness Sake is back and bigger than ever. Hosted by Carelink at Bespoke Video Production on Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. Cupcakes for Goodness Sake showcases amateur and professional bakers alike in a friendly competition. This year’s baking challenge: to create a delicious and unique cupcake inspired by everyone’s favorite Sunday tradition: brunch!  Cupcakes for Goodness Sake raises funds + friends for CareLink and brings awareness to the critical needs of older people in the Central Arkansas community.

In anticipation of this fun-filled event, we’re sharing each baker’s unique expertise + talent.

Jan Lewandowski is the the baking instructor at the Pulaski Technical College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute. Jan is most looking forward to event and  brings that little special something she brings to the competition as an experienced baking instructor!

Inviting Arkansas: What is your signature baking style?
Jan Lewandowski:
As an instructor I focus on classical desserts, so my style has evolved to modern classical.  Most desserts I make are based from a classic dessert and then I add a little twist.  I also love a good whimsical dessert, which is why the brunch theme for our cupcakes this year is so fun!

IA: What is your favorite cupcake flavor?
JL:
Chocolate cake, raspberry jam and chocolate ganache – I LOVE chocolate and the tart raspberry jam brightens it all up.  It’s a classic combination for a reason!

IA: Have you ever had a kitchen fiasco?
JL:
A few… I started my career in hotel pastry production, where the mistakes aren’t ever small!  The worst one was making hundreds of giant profiteroles, and I didn’t put in a large amount of flour.  There is nothing worse than looking at two speed racks full of puffs that didn’t puff, and then looking at the other table where my flour was still sitting!

IA: What keeps you living + giving in Central Arkansas?
JL:
Arkansas is so beautiful and the best thing about it is the people!  I think we have the friendliest state – between teaching school and owning a small business, I get to know a wonderful variety of ages and personalities.

IA: Why did you choose to be a participant in Cupcakes for Goodness Sake?
JL:
The creativity of the event and we love using our skills for a great cause!  I believe it’s important for our students to have opportunities to give back to our community.

IA: What’s the anticipated highlight of the event for you?
JL:
I can’t wait to see what the other bakers come up with and getting a chance to visit with them and the guests!
