Fashion Hour at the Capital

Guest blog by Laura Cartwright Hardy of Esse Purse Museum & Store

You don’t have to jet off to New York to partake in a little Fashion Week pizzazz. The Capital Hotel’s second annual Fashion Hour addresses the craze for couture – along with conversation, companionship and cocktails. The event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12.

Co-organizer Heather Collins says the event is “where fashion and happy hour come together” on the first day of New York Fashion Week.

Last year’s event was a success, with a range of guests – mainly women –from 20-somethings to 80-somethings of all races, socio-economic levels and lifestyles, from “bohemian to upscale,” co-organizer Shelby Tate says. “The buzz in the room was just a fun, lively, happy group – ladies having cocktails with friends new and old friends and laughing ….”

Running in the background were clips from NYFW 2014’s runway shows interspersed with runway shows from decades past.

Fast forward to this year’s event, with 2015 footage and exciting changes afoot. The year’s Fashion Hour is the stiletto-heeled kick-off for a series of spring fashion events. The Capital Hotel, Esse Purse Museum, Little Rock fashion designer Linda Rowe Thomas and Oxford American are joining together to bring you “Fashion Footprints,” details of which will be announced at Fashion Hour.

Fashion Hour will offer some of Linda’s creations, and purses from The Store at Esse will serve as centerpieces.

For now, just know, as Heather so nicely puts it: “In the South, fashion and relationships are deeply rooted in family and heritage, especially for women. These events are a celebration of that.”

Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 and are still available at www.eventbrite.com/e/fashion-hour-at-the-capital-tickets-15275312872
