Grease Sing-A-Long: A Party by Women for Women

Guest blog by Stacey Margaret Jones, Party with a Heart Board of Directors

The Party with a Heart Grease Sing-A-Long is Saturday, September 15, and one thing that distinguishes it among Central Arkansas fundraising events is that it’s a party for women only. Is a women’s night out really that much fun?

While the ticket price does raise money for Hope Rises—a Little-Rock based nonprofit that provides holistic services to women impacted by poverty, addiction, trauma or incarceration—it also delivers a fun evening: a full, open bar; tasty snacks; a fun goodie bag with props for special movie moments and a screening of the iconic 40-year-old movie and sing-along lyrics. And only you and your girlfriends are invited.

Jennifer Ruud, assistant director of academic advising at UCA, said she loves the all-women party experience.

“Everyone is there purely to have a fun time, while also supporting a worthy cause,” Ruud said. “There are no expectations that you be anyone other than you are, and it’s a very comfortable and supportive environment.”

“Everyone just has a blast!” Ruud said.

But the events aren’t just meaningful because they’re fun and raise money and awareness for PWH’s nonprofit partners; for some attendees, there’s a deeper sense of connection.

For Kristen Lippincott, a Little Rock corporate health promotion consultant and ACE certified health coach, the women-only aspect of the party was always appealing, even nostalgic.

“I was lucky to be raised in a neighborhood filled with independent women—homemakers, working women, single moms, widows and retirees,” Lipincott said. She remembers them all gathering on front porches in their neighborhood to share stories of their day around quitting time each evening. “Some with a cocktail,” she recalled.

“Attending events like the ones that Party with a Heart hosts takes me back to my childhood,” she said. “The women at these events aren’t just supporting an organization in need, they are supporting one another, just like those who gathered on our front porch.”

“They dance and hold hands and sing and laugh, and are their best selves, simply because they are in the same room together,” she said of the Party with a Heart events.

Lippencott described herself as a “feminist and a romantic,” and she loves how women tackle their lives with ferocity. She feels that energy at Party with a Heart’s women-only events.

This year’s PWH nonprofit partner, Hope Rises, is helping Arkansas women tackle a very big problem: transitioning from prison. Women who have completed the Hope Rises program have a 0 percent recidivism rate, proving the organization is successful in what it teaches at-risk women.

Tickets for the Grease Sing-a-Long are for sale online here or at the door. Sponsors include Legacy Termite and Pest Control, Ben E. Keith, Arvest, First Financial Mortgage, E.Leigh’s, Allegra Marketing and 107 Liquor.

This year’s sing-along includes a Grease costume contest with prizes for winners chosen by a panel of judges.
