For more than 25 years, the 20th Century Club has helped families through their cancer journey, offering “hope away from home” at its lodge. This no-cost housing is available to patients receiving cancer treatment at area medical centers. The 20th Century Club members and the Angels of Hope offer camaraderie + fellowship in addition to the necessary amenities.
The Angels of Hope program fosters civic leadership and the spirit of volunteerism among high school juniors. Program activities at the lodge include sharing meals, playing games and visiting with cancer patients. It was a vision of Deena Burnett Bailey and Nancy Price. Nancy recalls, “We wanted to create a program that would foster the desire of volunteering in the next generation of women.”
20th Century Club Executive Director Eizabeth Clogston was initially introduced to the organization through friendships with members and gained insight when her daughter participated as an Angel of Hope. Elizabeth reflects, “I believe each of us has been blessed by God with talents and abilities that we can use in service to others. It’s wonderful for these young ladies to help someone through the worst possible time in their life.”
Former Angel of Hope and Service Above Self Honoree Heather Harpole realized the transformative power of philanthropy during her tenure. “I experienced the optimistic energy that the lodge residents illuminate. It was rewarding to see what my service provided firsthand.” The program fosters civic leadership and a spirit of volunteerism that last a lifetime. The Angles of Hope reflect the essence of the 20th Century Club’s mission – hope + healing.
