Grab your girlfriends and join the party at Argenta Community Theater for a Mamma Mia! Sing-a-Long. This evening of song and dance is hosted by Party with a Heart – established by Lisa Brumley, Tifany Hamlin and Yvette Parker to raise awareness, education and support for a variety of community-based issues. Throughout the year, they bring women together at fun and simple events with a designated organization to support. This year, Partners Against Trafficking Humans is the beneficiary. ABBA-themed and disco-era costumes are encouraged at this music-inspired party. All proceeds benefit PATH’s mission: working as advocates for individuals victimized by sex-trafficking and providing a safe environment for rescued victims.

We got the party scoop and more from Lisa Brumley, Party with a Heart board member, treasurer & secretary; and vice president, senior private banker at Arvest Bank.

It’s been an impressive inaugural year for Party with a Heart, Lisa says. “Our community has welcomed us with tremendous interest and enthusiasm. Our first fundraiser in the spring was a huge success, and we raised a lot of money for PATH.” Additionally, Party with a Heart offered two free screenings of In Plain Sight. “The documentary sheds light on the harsh reality of human trafficking and where it exists on a local and national level.”

Party with a Heart creates positive change through education and awareness, and that’s what motivates Lisa every day, she says. “We will promote and inspire volunteerism by tapping into the gifts of our time and resources to support nonprofit organizations that we are passionate about as a community.”

The sing-a-long event “is going to be an incredibly entertaining evening for women to come and enjoy the award-winning musical film Mamma Mia!” Lisa says. “All dancing queens are invited to dance and sing along to the timeless music of ABBA.” The festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour followed by the movie screening. “There will not be silent or live auctions, and there won’t be pressure to donate publicly. It’s just great fun with girlfriends.”

Proceeds benefit PATH and its critical mission fulfillment work in Arkansas; with a focus that’s increasingly alarming as the National Human Trafficking Resource Center reports a 30 percent increase of sex trafficking in Arkansas between 2014 and 2015, Lisa says. “Funds support PATH in their continued endeavors to provide restorative care which include safe housing, group therapy, life skills training and a comprehensive community re-entry program. It has been an honor and an educational experience for all of us at Party with a Heart to raise awareness on behalf of PATH this year.”

Why PATH?
PARTNERS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Young boys, girls and women are forced into sexual exploitation and prostitution every day. Many are from Arkansas, others are brought to Arkansas and held captive to this trade.

A recent prostitution sting operation in Arkansas revealed that 50 percent of prostitution arrests are trafficking victims.

PATH is an advocate.
