Taste of Giving Back

Luxurious candies taste better paired with the confidence of giving back. Unassuming gray packaging with a splash of yellow encloses 50 dark chocolate sea salt caramel squares, currently on the shelves in the Shop@Heifer.

A harmonious blend of sweet and salty, the original 1920s recipe was used to create the caramel, which is enveloped by Ecuadorian dark chocolate. Single and sustainably sourced, the chocolate originated with cacao farmers who are members of a Heifer International project.

Ecuador is one of the most naturally, culturally and ethnically diverse countries in the world. Despite its rich diversity, Ecuadorians experience great economic, social and political inequities.

To overcome these adversities, Heifer helps small-scale farmers, harvesters and entrepreneurs from Andean communities to the mangrove forests along the coast.

With a mission to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth, Heifer sustainably improves the quality of life for small-scale cacao farmers and their families by providing training and resources. By learning the best methods for growing and harvesting, farmers are able to increase the production of high-quality cacao, along with raising prices for their products.

Heifer is working to elevate farm families – in Ecuador and around the world – to a living income, which allows them to feed their families daily; educate all their children; and have proper housing, water, hygiene and other essential resources.

Boxes of the dark chocolate sea salt caramels are available at Shop@Heifer, located inside Heifer Village at 1 World Avenue in downtown Little Rock, or online.

At 50 calories per serving, which includes three decadent squares, the richness of each piece is cut by the satisfaction of knowing your purchase is helping small-scale farmers in Ecuador become self-reliant.
