Traveling to lesser known places and meeting people from different backgrounds are my biggest inspirations. There is a magical boost of energy one feels after such a journey. I also enjoy visiting art museums, even though as a younger rebel I used to pride myself by telling people that visiting museums was my least favorite activity. Nowadays, they are my first stop in any new city.
FAVORITE ART FORM
Oil is my preferred medium, but from time to time I like to experiment with other media when I don’t have access to my easel.
ADVICE FOR ASPIRING ARTISTS
Create what excites you, what keeps you going. Get frustrated when a piece is not going the way you had envisioned. Eventually, you will either hide it in a closet or learn to live with it. Maybe you’ll even end up liking it. Research and find out how it is that your favorite artists achieve a certain technique and try incorporating it in your art.
EVOLUTION AS AN ARTIST
When we were kids, my sister and I would draw cartoons and anime characters; I enjoyed art classes in high school. However, it had never occurred to me that I could pursue art as a career, so I immersed myself in linguistics and translation. Soon after I moved to the United States, I started painting full time, and I fell in love with it. I finally understood the saying “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.”
Life is unpredictable and I like to take it as it comes. What is certain is that I will continue painting and improving my skills and techniques with determination because I have found my true passion.
