CARE Presents Paws on the Runway 2021: Dogchella

On Thursday, October 28, from 6–9 pm, amid the rustic-chic charm of the Sunset Lodge at Rusty Tractor Vineyards in Little Rock, canine and human models will take to the runway to show off some of the finest fashions Little Rock has to offer. Presented by Hank’s Fine Furniture – you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home and attend the virtual event simultaneously.

In addition to the catwalk show, Paws on the Runway guests will enjoy delicious food from Trio’s, Flyway Brewing and Tito’s bold beverages – along with a fabulous silent auction. And, best of all, guests will meet the superstars of the show—CARE’s adoptable dogs—because rescue never goes out of style!

Paws on the Runway: Dogchella will raise money and awareness for all that CARE does to help animals. We want to show the lifesaving and life-changing effects CARE has on pets and the people who adopt, foster, train, and love them.

Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals, fondly known as CARE, celebrated its 23rd birthday in September. That means that for 23 years, CARE has been dedicated to animal rescue and pet sterilization in central Arkansas. CARE rescues, provides medical care, and places shelter animals facing imminent euthanasia into foster and forever homes. CARE also offers spay/neuter assistance to help low-income pet owners and works to increase awareness of the need to spay and neuter pets. CARE has grown from an initial group of four volunteers into an organization with three full-time employees and hundreds of volunteers who devote thousands of hours to its rescue/adoption and spay/neuter efforts. Since its founding, CARE has rescued over 4,500 cats and dogs and helped with the sterilization of more than 14,000 pets.

CARE also partners with the Arkansas Department of Correction on the Paws in Prison program. Inmates who are selected to participate in the program are partnered with shelter dogs for eight weeks. During this time, the dogs live with the inmates 24/7. With the help of professional trainers, the inmates train these dogs to become AKC Good Canine Citizen eligible and help them find their forever homes. But the Paws in Prison program isn’t just beneficial for the dogs; the inmates also learn valuable job skills and get to help shape these pups into wonderful pets. The recidivism rate among inmates who participate in Paws in Prison is significantly lower than among inmates who do not. It’s a new LEASH on life for both trainer and dog!

Whether it comes after the Paws in Prison program, a foster home, or both, the best days at CARE are adoption days, when previously unwanted pets head to their forever home. All of CARE’s adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. So, when they walk out the door of CARE, they are headed to the bright futures they deserve.
