Rhys Branman M.D. is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Medical School, where he also completed his general surgery and residency training. Dr. Branman served as a consultant to the surgeon general in the area of facial cosmetic surgery. In 2018, Dr. Branman was appointed by Governor Hutchinson as member of the Arkansas State Medical Board. When is it time to consider a lift? A “lift” or Mastopexy is a surgical procedure in which the lower part of the breast is tightened and the nipple areolar complex is moved superiorly. This allows the breast to take on a more youthful or perkier appearance. Reasons to consider a “lift” include a saggy or deflated appearance of the breasts, asymmetry of the breasts and a nipple areolar complex that appears to be pointing in a downward direction.
When is it time to consider a reduction with or without implants? Typically, a reduction is not performed with implants in my experience due to the high revision rate of the procedure and the unpredictability of the final implant position. Think of a reduction as a larger “lift” procedure where typically more tissue is removed with the reduction.
What kind of recovery to expect? Typically, patients go through a 3-5 day recovery where they may be sore and need some type of pain medication. After that time, patients do very well. However, we have patients limit heavy lifting and exercise for 4-6 weeks. After that patients can resume regular activities.
