The Memphian – in the Heart of Midtown Memphis

The Memphian, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, sits at the cultural center of Midtown Memphis in historic Overton Square. At its height of popularity in the 1970’s the area bustled with restaurants, bars, shops and live music venues – attracting local and visitors to celebrate nightly. The unconventional energy of Overton Square’s diminished during the 1990’s and by 2010 the area’s historic buildings were largely abandoned. Public attention refocused on the square and its neighborhood appeal when a developer sought to demolish the district in 2010. In support of the Save The Square initiative, Robert and Lou Loeb of LPI Memphis purchased the area in 2012 with a vision for the historic revitalization.

The historic architecture of Overton Square was preserved + celebrated as each structure was thoughtfully renovated for local and unique businesses. Public art installations by local artists are on display throughout the square – a living open-air collection that enjoys continual new additions. The Overton Square Arts & Entertainment District is now defined not just by award-winning restaurants, shops and entertainment venues but also by four live action theaters, Ballet Memphis performance hall, and a destination art house movie theater. The square hosts a variety of free public events throughout the year including open air theater, music series, pop-up street performances and festivals surrounded by al fresco dining and lively nightlife.

The Memphian, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is committed to building a better Memphis and is dedicated to continued revitalization efforts and the preservation of Midtown Memphis character. Boasting eclectic accommodations and vibrant food + beverage concepts, Complicated Pilgrim and Tiger & Peacock, The Memphian shares Overton Square’s appreciation for creative expression and community and invites you to immerse yourself in the culture of the storied neighborhood in which it sits.
