Women in STEAM – Christina Pilkington

Christina Pilkington | Euronet USA, LLC | Finance Director

Day at Work…It starts with a “to-do” list of items, projects and meetings that need to be completed that day and typically ends late with prioritized items finally accomplished. I may hear from the Euronet India development manager regarding a pressing project or requests from our corporate finance/tax team related to transfer pricing or withholding taxes in various countries.

Beginning Interests…My late Aunt Theresa always wanted me to be an accountant. I honestly did not know exactly what that entailed; but I later learned you can go in so many different directions in this field. I worked with Ernst & Young, St. Vincent Hospital, Levi Strauss and Raytheon Aircraft before getting into the Euronet software financial reporting arena 18+ years ago.

LOVE the Work …I love the international flavor of my job and always have. From my first week, when I walked down the hall to hear various accents during an ESCAPE convention, to working on daily projects with people all over the world – it is still thrilling to be connected to a global world.

Surprising but True…First, that you can be an accountant or CPA and work in non-profit, tax, government, private industry or numerous other fields which allows you to get into the area that feeds your own interests. Second, financial reporting for the software industry is not easy: it is specialized, challenging and continues to evolve with new technology and business models.

Advice…If you get the opportunity, work in the auditing field initially so you can get exposure to the numerous different accounting opportunities, then slow down and consider the work that really makes you feel you are performing at your best.
