Dianne Branch | Southwest Power Pool | Controller
Career Evolution…I was an auditor for one of the big firms (Deloitte) for almost 10 years and one of my longtime clients was SPP. I was always fascinated with the industry, the work that SPP was doing, and probably most noteworthy was the way they conducted business. When the controller position was created, I knew that’s where I wanted to work. As they say, the rest is history.
Love the Work…I always feel challenged with new opportunities to grow as a professional and I am honored to work with such a diverse group of talented individuals. Specifically, I have an amazing staff of dedicated professionals who bring their “A” game every day. It doesn’t happen without them.
Surprising But True…You don’t have to be an engineer or an IT professional to make a meaningful contribution to these particular industries. I use my accounting and finance knowledge to support the company in achieving its mission.
Advice…Don’t shy away from opportunities that get you out of your comfort zone. It can get tough sometimes, but that’s where some tremendous growth can occur. Also, invest the time to master your craft and don’t be deterred when rewards don’t come immediately. Anything worth doing is worth putting in the hard work.
Day at Work…I always review my calendar for the day and identify my top three priorities. I generally have several meetings scattered throughout the day with my remaining time dedicated to those high priority items. Once the workday is done, I volunteer several times a week with a local charity and I always try to work in some time for exercise and quiet reflection.
