Day at Work…Every workday is different and unique. As founder and CEO of two companies, inVeritas and Select Litigation, I am fortunate to work with my talented team on a wide variety of legal and public policy issues. I may be conducting a focus group, mock trial or selecting a jury; advocating on behalf of various industries from healthcare to information technology; or developing a strategic plan on behalf of an agency or organization. Regardless of the service, the genesis of our work is intelligence and communication, using technology to advance our impact.
Beginning Interests…My brother and hero Tim has developmental disabilities and since childhood I have been his advocate. My early passion to fight for and protect him led me to my life’s work in advocacy, the cornerstone of my professional and charitable work. I have been fortunate to combine my experience in law, public policy and the press to impact positive change.
Love the Work…Being a business owner allows me to push the envelope on ideas, offering unlimited growth and potential opportunities. It has given me the ability to travel extensively, cultivate relationships with talented leaders and to learn about cutting edge science, education, technology and health care. I find great joy in tackling a challenge, developing a strategy and creating winning solutions for clients, family and friends. I’m also passionate about our culture and commitment to give back and invest in our community.
Surprising But True…A career in STEAM is limitless. It provides an opportunity to create a career path uniquely your own by combining a personal passion with the use of creativity, technology, smarts and drive. It can vary greatly from engineer to animator, research specialist to filmmaker. And there are many talented women who have led the way for all of us.
Career Evolution…My career evolved from working on traditional legal work to becoming a serial entrepreneur driven by the use of research and intelligence. Technology perpetually reshapes our data driven services and requires us to evolve with emerging trends. inVeritas’ Global i platform is one example of how our team developed IT to streamline our due diligence services. My jury consulting firm, Select Litigation uses an Integrated Selection Model® built on a series of IT markers to deliver our research and communicate our successful striking strategy when selecting a jury. There is no substitute for human reasoning but the use of cutting-edge technology to gather and analyze vast amounts of information has been critical to our success.
Advice…Be kind, kindness matters. Surround yourself with positive people. Use your time and talent to give charitably. Embrace change. Accept challenges outside your comfort zone. Seek advice. Never, never give up. If you stick with it and find ways to navigate the tough times, your success will bring you more joy and satisfaction than you can imagine.
