ET ALIA PRESS: The Hospice Doctor’s Widow: A Journal
February 25, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join Et Alia Press for a launch party of debut work from Jennifer A. O’Brien, The Hospice Doctor’s Widow: A Journal!
Dr. Bob Lehmberg cared for many in central Arkansas, first as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon from 1979-2008 then as a hospice and palliative care physician from 2008 until his death in 2017. The Hospice Doctor’s Widow: A Journal is a book of art and writings by Bob’s widow, Jennifer O’Brien, who started journaling when he was diagnosed with stage IV, metastatic cancer. Through his illness and after his death, Jennifer documented the wisdom that Bob had shared with patients and families along with her own observations, feelings and experiences as a family caregiver into the collages and tableaus that make up this compelling book. With 300-500,000 Arkansans caregiving for a family member or friend with a serious condition, this book is a needed resource as it includes honest, insider straight-talk through images, art, and easy to understand writings. It is a local love story with universal appeal.
The event will celebrate the story and the extraordinary love and courage that open dialogue about end of life calls for. A dozen giclee prints of the original art from the book will line the gallery walls. Obituary Cocktails/Mocktails and delicious funeral food prepared by Heritage Catering will be served. The author will speak for a few minutes at 6:15p and then sign books. There will be laughter; there might be some tears; there won’t be regret.
