Fellow Arkansans – neighbors, colleagues and friends – are sharing a light of peace, kindness and generosity that makes The Natural State a little brighter.    Janet Breen has a heart for service and a mind that complements her compassionate nature. With a Master of Education degree from Purdue University and several other counseling credentials, her tenure as a caregiver reflects her astute nature to nurture. Janet is program coordinator of the Kaleidoscope Grief Center Program for Kaleidoscope Kids, which was originally the children’s hospice program under Hospice Home Care, Inc. In partnership with Methodist Family Health, Kaleidoscope Grief Center provides emotional and bereavement support to heartbroken Arkansans. However, Janet’s care spans beyond the Methodist Family Health campus; the lives of brave, but troubled children and families are changed forever.

“Our mission is to give the best possible care to those who may need our help,” Janet reinforces. With more than two decades of grief and bereavement counseling experience, she is well equipped to provide transformative care. In addition to her contributions to Methodist Family Health, Janet has facilitated adult bereavement groups with Roller Funeral Homes and has volunteered as a member of the Alliance for Grief & Loss Community Coalition. “I hope that I have achieved winning the trust and respect of the children and families I serve and that in some small way, I have been helpful to them on their life’s path.”

This month, Janet and the Methodist Family Health team will help host Camp Healing Hearts. This retreat offers bereaved children and families an opportunity to discover inner strength through therapeutic and recreational activities. This camp is open to any Arkansas child and their family who are grieving the death of a loved one. This event includes heart-to-heart time, swimming, fishing, crafts, games, campfires and s’mores and much more.

Janet reminds, “Methodist Family Health has been a staple in the Arkansas community since 1899 when we began our legacy of care as the Arkansas Methodist Orphanage. To this day, Methodist Family Health provides a complete continuum of care for Arkansas children and their families.” Through her unwavering commitment to the organization – Janet has created a safe space on campus and beyond of trust, safety, validation and love. “We are so complicated as human beings and there as so many ways we can connect with others to promote healing. I love that we have this vast array of services at Methodist Family Health to treat the whole person.”
