When Josie and Jessie Webb are not volunteering with their Girl Scouts troop, they’re finding other ingenious ways to improve the lives of fellow Arkansans. The Sour Sisters Lemonade Stand is a project started in 2021. This dynamic duo hosts yard sales to benefit Walk for the Waiting – a fundraiser for children across Arkansas who are waiting for foster families, waiting to be adopted or families waiting to be mentored. They are are not only passionate about making the community better, they also care deeply about the well-being of children in foster care. When asked what they love most about volunteering, Jessie says, “I like helping groups that help kids in foster care because that means they might get a home.” Josie agrees, “I like finding problems and fixing them; that can mean helping people, animals or even state parks.” They emphasize “be kind to others and be kind to the earth.” Josie concludes with a The Girl Scout Law, which she says “includes the line, ‘Make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout’.”

“I have been collecting and donating cereal to the Arkansas Foodbank and Summer Cereal Drive for 16 years. At age 3, I remember delivering collected boxes for Tom Brannon to distribute across Central Arkansas. Helping people whenever you can is my philosophy. It always has been—and always will be!”

“My parents have always encouraged us to look for ways we can use our individual skills and gifts to benefit others. That is what inspired my brother to begin an afterschool Ping-Pong program at Our House. After spending time with him while he was working with the students, I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I contacted Our House to see if there were any students who could benefit from reading or math tutoring after school. My tutoring sessions had to be held virtually, but as COVID restrictions eased, I was able to begin tutoring students in person. It made such a difference to be able to work together face to face. I had some wonderful students!”
