Women in STEAM: Dr. Nancy M. Gray

Nancy M. Gray, Ph.D. | BioVentures, LLC –  President | The University of Arkansas for Medical – Professor, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology

A Day at Work… The exciting thing about my position is that there isn’t a typical workday.  Some days I am in meetings on a variety of topics or interacting with inventors and on others I am teaching in an entrepreneurship program.

Beginning Interests… When I expressed interest in chemistry, my high school chemistry teacher took me to several local meetings of the American Chemical Society.  I was exposed to the number of ways a chemistry degree could be applied and the number of job opportunities that would be available.

Career Evolution… After finishing my Ph.D. in chemistry, I began working as a research chemist for a pharmaceutical company.  Even though, I haven’t worked in a laboratory for many years, my career has always been related in some way to pharmaceutical research.

LOVE the Work… Interacting with a larger number of researchers who are pursuing new technologies and approaches to improving human health and well-being.

Surprising but True… The broad number of job types available to anyone with a STEAM education.

Advice… Have confidence in your capabilities and never accept “You can’t!” as a response.
