One of two runner-ups in the Colonial Summer Cocktail Contest, Debra Waterford, gives us a recipe that packs a punch!
This cocktail mixes sweet + spicy in a harmonious blend, with tart grapefruit providing a refresher from the summer heat and ginger & Mescal providing an herbal, earthy balance – preparing us for fall.
Smokey Hot Redhead
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 1/2 oz. Scorpion Mescal
- 3/4 oz. Domaine de Canton liqueur
- 1/2 grapefruit (freshly-squeezed)
- One tablespoon agave nectar
- Splash of Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
- Muddled fresh ginger
- Candied ginger
DIRECTIONS:
- Muddle fresh ginger with Domaine de Canton in a shaker
- Add Mescal and juice of 1/2 grapefruit
- Two tablespoons agave nectar
- Eight drops of Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
- Shake with crushed ice and strain into coupe glass
- Rim coupe with grapefruit peel then half rim smoked salt (or ginger sugar)
- Garnish with candied ginger between grapefruit peel on a skewer
- Enjoy!
