Colonial Cocktail Contest

One of two runner-ups in the Colonial Summer Cocktail Contest, Debra Waterford, gives us a recipe that packs a punch!

This cocktail mixes sweet + spicy in a harmonious blend, with tart grapefruit providing a refresher from the summer heat and ginger & Mescal providing an herbal, earthy balance – preparing us for fall.

Smokey Hot Redhead

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 1/2 oz. Scorpion Mescal
  • 3/4 oz. Domaine de Canton liqueur
  • 1/2 grapefruit (freshly-squeezed)
  • One tablespoon agave nectar
  • Splash of Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
  • Muddled fresh ginger
  • Candied ginger
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Muddle fresh ginger with Domaine de Canton in a shaker
  2. Add Mescal and juice of 1/2 grapefruit
  3. Two tablespoons agave nectar
  4. Eight drops of Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
  5. Shake with crushed ice and strain into coupe glass
  6. Rim coupe with grapefruit peel then half rim smoked salt (or ginger sugar)
  7. Garnish with candied ginger between grapefruit peel on a skewer
  8. Enjoy!
