AR Kids Read – How do you spell success?

For many, the answer includes the quality of our relationships, purpose, and the resources that help us accomplish our goals.  For Arkansas children, being able to read is a critical part of their success and future potential. “A student who can’t read on grade level by 3rd grade is four times less likely to graduate by age 19 …Add poverty to the mix, and a student is 13 times less likely to graduate on time than his or her proficient, wealthier peer.” * In Arkansas, a shocking 67.8% of children are struggling. They are behind and at risk.

Established in 2012, AR Kids Read is a community-based nonprofit focused on creating success   stories for students. By recruiting, training, and mobilizing volunteers for one-to-one tutoring, the organization helps children achieve their reading goals.

Spellebration, AR Kids Read’s annual fundraiser, will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Presented by Oaklawn Hot Springs, the event will unfold at the Venue at Westwind, located in North Little Rock. The evening promises an engaging adult spelling bee featuring local Chambers of Commerce teams and will be complemented by a silent auction and raffle. Attendees will enjoy an entertaining atmosphere in business casual attire while indulging in heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

This year’s Spellebration will present the Community Leader award to Darrin Williams, CEO of Southern Bancorp. Olivia Heritage, Tempus Realty Partners, will be honored as Tutor of the Year.

Proceeds from Spellebration will be directed towards AR Kids Read’s initiatives, including literacy tutoring in local schools and summer enrichment programs.

For those interested in attending or becoming a sponsor, detailed information is available at https://Spell2024.givesmart.com or by calling (501) 244-2661.
