CALS: What is Your Story?

By Eliza Borné – Director of Development, Central Arkansas Library System

One of the best things about working for the Central Arkansas Library System is hearing people’s “library stories.”

Nearly all of us have one.

Maybe you developed a passion for reading because of a librarian’s encouragement. Or learned a new skill at a class at your neighborhood branch. Maybe the library is your happy place, where you can unwind while you browse the shelves for a new page-turner (or five). Or perhaps you’re one of the many parents whose child has seen positive outcomes while participating in the library’s free math tutoring program.

CALS needs private support to make our library stories possible. Here’s how you can help:

  • This year’s Summer Reading Club theme is Tails and Tales. Donations pay for the performers your kids love.
  • Since March 2020, our Be Mighty program has served more than 186,000 meals to kids and families. A donation of $100 provides one meal a day for a month.
  • The Encyclopedia of Arkansas’s traffic has skyrocketed during the pandemic. Folks around the world have turned to the library’s digital encyclopedia for its convenience – and for its accuracy. Donations keep the EOA running.
  • The goal of the library’s new Rock It! Lab is to inspire, educate, and connect under-resourced entrepreneurs and to create pathways for them to achieve economic mobility. Donations will equip the lab with equipment and tools needed to set up entrepreneurs for success.

Make your donation today at cals.org/foundation. And tell us: What’s your library story? Share yours by writing etborne@cals.org, or by tagging #TheLibraryRewritten on social media.
