Women in STEAM – Marina Ivanovsky, APRN

Marina Ivanovsky, APRN | Marina Lifestyle: Medicine & Holistic Aesthetics | Family Nurse Practitioner, Owner & Founder of Marina Lifestyle Medicine & Holistic Aesthetics

Day at Work…After I wake up, I check my sleep quality with my Oura Ring and blood sugar levels through my continuous glucose monitor. No, I am not a diabetic, but there are countless benefits to monitoring your glucose. Most of my aesthetic and lifestyle medicine patients follow the same routine and appreciate great improvements in how they feel. Then, I answer my emails, check my schedule and prepare for work day. I usually see my first patient around 9 am and will see around 7-10 patients a day. My day typically consists of doing aesthetic procedures like facial rejuvenation, botox, fillers, laser skin resurfacing and lifestyle consultations for weight loss and metabolic health. My aesthetic clients often become my lifestyle medicine clients and vice versa.

Beginning Interests…I created Marina Lifestyle Medicine and Holistic Aesthetic to put an emphasis on the whole person, not just a wrinkle or symptom. I have worked in settings where I could only spend 15 minutes with a patient and we had a “pill for every ill.” It was sick care not health care! I was also fortunate to work under Dr.Yee, which is where I sharpened my aesthetic skills. After obtaining my certification in lifestyle medicine and learning the importance of sleep, nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and community on our health – I created Marina Lifestyle Medicine. Marina Lifestyle Medicine is a place where I can share the latest advances in health, beauty and longevity

Career Evolution…My career evolved over the years, but I always was interested in people and medicine. In Russia, I went to a pharmacy school. When we came to the U.S. in 1993, I became a registered nurse and supported my family while my husband was going through medical residency. Shortly after he finished, I got my Masters Degree in Family Practice and started working as a family nurse practitioner. Later, I pursued certification in Lifestyle Medicine and non-surgical facial rejuvenation.

LOVE the Work …I love people and hearing their stories. I love that I could be a part of their beautiful journey to health, beauty and longevity. Some clients have been following me since 2004 and we can see that we were able to make meaningful changes and turn back the clock of aging. I am not in the business of making lips fuller or wrinkles disappear, I make people feel better about the way they look and the way they feel about themself. I help them to look youthful and natural rather than flawless and perfect.

Surprising but True…We no longer have to follow traditional careers. I believe that with passion, hard work, and perseverance one can always find a perfect fit! It requires hard work, it requires investment of time but it always pays in the end.

Advice…Be a driver of your future, don’t be a passive passenger. Sometimes it means going uphill and against the tide of the norm. Sometimes it means spending more time accomplishing something. Don’t give up if you think you are not good at one subject, like chemistry or cannot tolerate blood. It all changes and you change with it. Follow your passion!
